History

Founded in 1949, St. Raphael School is a member of the Archdiocese of Louisville. The school started out small, with mostly children from the parish. During the 1950s "baby boom," enrollment doubled.

Growth has remained steady during the past decade or so, and it is common for SRS alumni, who are now parents and grandparents, to send their children to St. Raphael Over time, the school has grown to accommodate nearly 500 students and 30 faculty members today.

As technology grew to be an important component of education during the 1990s, St. Raphael took up the challenge to incorporate technology into its curriculum. It was one of only 11 schools in the U.S. selected in 1993 by theNational Catholic Educational Association and the University of Dayton as a "New Frontiers School." This designation reflects a strong commitment to and application of educational technology.

In 2005 St. Raphael became the only Catholic elementary school in Kentucky to be named TWICE by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence (also 1997). Only a handful of local-area schools have been recognized even one time.
